The monthly meeting of the Wha katane Branch of the Red Cross Society was held in the Borough Coun ci] Chambers on Tuesday afternoonMrs W. Sullivan presided over Mesdames Sloane, W. Bridger. Hayter, Ballard, Suckling, Littlejohn, Rangi, Ramson Senr., Good, Burgess Bathe, Buddie, Cole, Tippett, Pearse Worcom, and Misses Armstrong, C. Schofield, Thompson and Righton. Apologies were received from Miss Tippett and .Mesdames D. Wilson, Searle and Caulton. The ladies of the shop committee will be operating a Bring and Buy Stall for four days at the Winter Show and donations of any saleable goods will be very much appreciated. Red Cross Headquarters have appealed for tin-foil. This is used in the manufacture of shell-resisting steel. Here is another way in which the children can help the war effort. The sheets should be spread out, not rolled into a ball, and left from time to time at the Red Cross shop in the Strand. Mrs Ramson, convenor of the Sew ing Committee, advises .that the following articles are packed and ready to be sent away:— 12 suits pyjamas, 6 scarves, 12 balaclavas, 12 pairs socks, 2 flannel bed capes, 4 flannel squares foments 6 shaving bags, 12 face cloths, 2 hot water bags, 9 milk jug covers, 4 buiders, 6 navy toiled bandages, 2 pairs bed socks, 1 pair knee caps, 6 tray cloths, (5 serviettes, 24 handkerchiefs, 1 box bandages 2 inch and 3 inch.
