Approval has been given by the National Patriotic Fund Board for the printing ot a pamphlet giving useful information to the next-of-kin of members of the fighting services. It is expected that the pamphlet will be available for distribution shortly. There will be a foreword by the Governor-General.. Lord Galway, who is chairman of the National Patriotic Fund Board. Included in the pamphlet will oe postal information, cablegram rates, suggestions regarding the packing and contents of parcels for the men overseas, knitting instruction*, information about the Soldiers' Financial Assistance Board, rates of pay and other matters. The method of distribution of the pamphlet ,has not yet been decided upon, but it Avas stated'that it .would probably be issued through the Provincial Patriotic Council.,

£14 Raised. Resulting from the successful drive made by the pupils bf the Primary Department of the Whakatane School, the sum of £14 |4s was realised for the goods collected. This is a highly creditable effort*and no doubt the children will feel well rewarded. List Grows. The register opened at the BEACON Office for those wishing to enroll in the Volunteer Reserve, designed for service in the event of an emergency, continues to lengthen. The majority of those who signed last week were R.S.A. members but the register is open to others and the total aimed at is 200. Berlin Propaganda. Speaking of the propaganda from the Berlin radio, Mr J. L. Burnett on Thursday night said that if the propaganda made for depression among the New Zealand listeners, they should 'shut it off.' "The nauseating part is that the broadcaster is a traitorous dog who once had the honour of being an Englishman,''' concluded Mr Burnett. "Blind Fanaticism." Referring to the article which appeared in a metropolitan daily describing the murder of one liun j dred Polish Boy Scouts in Warsaw, Mr lan Gow, at the public meeting called to discuss New Zealand's war effort, said that the shooting could have been carried out only by the blind fanaticism of men who had been led to believe that their country will rule the world. Harbour Board Finances. At the ordinary meeting of the Whakatane Hax-bour Board on Friday the Treasurer reported that the Board's cash position was a credit of £3328 2s lOd, of which £2800 was on fixed deposit. Payment to Mr Davies on account of the wharf contract w r as £1759 17s 6d. Accounts totalling £2327 12s lid were passed for payment. It was revealed that wharfages were down by £325 on the year to date.
