THE WINTER SHOW.
WEDNESDAY next will see the opening of Whakatane's Winter Show and District Exhibition. This year above all previous years it is necessary for the public to give the fixture their full and unreserved support. With the Show will come the various features which have so much appeal to W community. Scottish Day on Thursday will as in the 0 past be in the hands of the local Caledonian Society. There will be a departure in having the dancing during the day "held in a spacious marquee, where patrons will be at liberty to view the local and visiting exponents of Highland and National dancing. The prizes are liberal, and there is no reason why the entries in this colourful section should not be well up on past years figures. Friday will be Children's Day. The usual entertaining programme will be held in the King Street Hall, and later in the evening will; be presented at the Show itself in the marquee as a special concert. The final day will be outstanding for the Grand Parade a!nd Procession Saturday afternoon. This will be Peoples' Day. Everything has been done to ensure that it will be the most memorable in years. The procession will include the Citizens' and Pipe Bands, and will feature the finest array of decorated vehicles ever seen in the town. There will be laughs all the way and everybody should rally Ito the town for the event. Added to the general programme will be a display by the Whakatane Pipe Bajid at the show premises. The exhibition will be officially opened by the president, Mr A. J. Canning,.on Wednesday. By way of entertaining the evening visitors a special effort has been made to supply light programmes by local artists who will appear for one hour nightly, till Saturday when it is hoped to put on a full two hour's continuous entertainment. v Renidents should realize that the Show is THEIR Show, and cannt be expected, to progress unless they are prepared to giv6 it> their patronage and support. As* a display of produce and as an exhibition of industry, it represents the finest advertisement that it is possible for any town to have • Jfew centres of Whakatane's size are capable of promoting a four day's show,, and it is to *the town's credit that it has been able to make it such a. success in the past. But it is not the laurels already earned to which we must look now. Rather it is to ensure that in the face, of the present difficulties our Show will continue to maintain its high standard. Knowing the public of the South Bay of Plenty, and their generous response to any worthy appeal addressed to them, we have no doubt about the ultimate success of the Show, or possibly even an improvement on the figures of the past.
