THEFT OF BENZINE
MAORI CONVICTED ONE MONTH'S IMPRISONMENT Sam Taiiua appeared before Messrs A. McGougan and J. Moody, Justices of the Peace, at Taneatua on Thursday charged with stealing a drum containing four gallons of benzine, the property of William Ward law, of Waimana. This offence was committed on April 13. A second charge, stealing three gallons of benzine from R. Wardlaw, of Waimana, on May 25th, was afso preferred. In prosecuting, Constable 0. S. Rice said that this type of offence was difficult to detect and was regarded seriously. He added that the inlliction of a penalty, commensurate with the nature of the offence would act as a deterrent to others. Accused was sentenced to one month's imprisonment on the first charge and convicted on the second.
