TRANSPORT DEPARTMENT PROSECUTIONS DEFENDANT FINED £2 FOR ' DANGEROUS DRIVING The Transport Department, repI resented fay Traffic Inspector J. H* Delves, prosecutcd a number of defendants in the Police Court yesterday. Failure to possess eurrent warrants of cost Mervyn James Bidlake £1 and 12s costs and Karito Paul, 10s and 17s. James Bertie Dance was convicted and ordered to pay 12s costs for riding a bicycle without a properly painted white mudguard. For exceeding the 30 m.p.h. speed limit, Lewis Phillip Walker was fined 30s and 12s costs. Driving a car not equipped "with number plates was responsible for the infliction of a £1 penalty on Mervyn James Bidlake and costs amounted to 12s. Thompson Biddls appeared on a charge of driving a car with defective brakes but lie had nothing to say and was fined £1 and 12s costs. Defective lights was the charge in the case of Allen J. Roberts and the fine was £1 with costs, 10s. Unusual Charge. William White appeared on a count of riding a motor cycle in a manner calculated to be dangerous to the public. Inspector Delves said that on April sth, a late shopping night, there was a continuous line of traffic moving out of the town and defendant passed several cars, two of them when turning a corner, ancl in one place defendant reached a speed of 50 m.p.h. £2 was the fine and costs in this case were 12s. Mr B. S. Barry appeared for Peter Coutts, -yvho was charged with counselling the commission of an offence by requesting James Coutts to drive a trade motor vehicle along Quay Street, when James Coutts was not the holder of a drivers' license. A plea of guilty was entered. Inspector Delves said he had seen James Coutts driving the vehicle along Quay Street. He interviewed the defendant when James Coutts informed him that he had been requested by.his faither to drive the vehicle. A fine of os was inflicted and costs were 10s.
