OPERATIONS REVIEWED BAY OP PLKXTY I'OV/HR 15DAHD Al the annual meeting of 1 lie Hay of Plenty Power Board, the Kn-ginecr-Maiiager,' Mr J. D. Dicker, stud that the satisfactory results obtained for the year were in keeping with previous years. Although reductions were introduced during Ihe past year, the snlc of electricity increased by £411!. Ihe average re\enue per unit sold being .B;>d as compared with 1.29,1 in i 930. Trading Department The turnover in the department .was £13,810 and was .">.B per cent, below the previous year. Such a con Jition was to ho expected owing to the highly developed nature of the Board's undertaking. Tiie total cost of service lines erecied during the year amounted to £2051, of which £1412 had been charged to consumers. 'Ihe total turnover in all departments amounting; to £08,839, is in excess of the previous year by £3139 New Construction During the year further development necessitated the erection of a number of line extensions, and an incrca.se in the capacity of transformers in certain localities, resulting in a capital outlay of £6847.
Maintenance and Reticulation The whole of Ihe Board's reticulation and plant has been maintained in good order and condition with comparatively few interruptions to supply. During the year every endeavour has been made to operate the system at a minimum cost; but "without curtailing the standard of the service rendered to customers. The percentage of working costs to revenue is 58.45 per ecnt. as compared with 60.57 per cent, which is the 1939 New Zealand average for 45 Power Boards. Included in the Board's working costs is an amount of £2448 for servicing faults, and had this cost been charged to consumers,, as is the policy of the majority of Boards, would" reduce the Board's percentage to 54 per cent. Stocks Every effort has been made to hold adequate stocks of all materials sufficient tr. carry on the Board's normal operations for a considerable period. The value of all stocks on hand as at March 31st., 1040, totals £22,316, an increase of £3302 over the totals for last year. A large portion was purchased below present ruling rates. Estimates The estimated Capital Expenditure required fox new line construction, plant, transformer, meters and service lines during 1940-41 is £4500. Included in this figure is a sum of £500 for the installation 'of further condenser capacity =equired for Power Eactor Correction. and within a period of two years will be recovered by resultant savings in the cost of powor. "Due to the continual changing conditions it is difficult to estimate with any degree of accuracy, and in framing the estimates for tlu current year, allowance has been made for possible contingencies. With this reservation I estimate the operations for the year should return a credit balance In the Power Fund of approximately £3160," concluded Mr Dicker.
