A GRATIFYING RESPONSE

The fact that no less than £322 wasi collected in the recent canvass for Patriotic Funds in the Borough indicates that the people of Whakatane are prepared to do their hit towards this important objective. The donations ranged from one shilling to individual sums of £20. All parts of the Borough were covered and the total was £10 'in advance of the sum anticipated;. Collectors report a ready sympathy and a willingness to give, which made their work easy and even enjoyable. Ninety nine per cent of those 'interviewed responded without' question—leaving a mere, fraction who objected on personal or other grounds. The result -is something of which the town may feel distinctly proud.
