RANGITAIKI UNION RESULTS TE TEKO DEFEATS MATATA Playing in the Rangitaiki Union's competitions, Te Tcko defeated Matata on Saturday by 14 points to 6. The teams were: —■ Te Teko: Jamieson; Savage, Ellis. Renata; B. Paul; Ratcmi, Kaipara; Mahi, Bakly, Rua, Tahatu, Tama, Hall, Whitle3% Edwards. Matata: R. Hataraka; Vercarmer, R. Lees, G. Burt; Bennett, M, Lees; Howell; Fraser, Magee, Conn, Morkel, Freebairn, Dally, Hohipa and Marr. The referee was Mr L. Anderson. The Game tss Matata kicked off and mid-field play followed until Howell found the line. A good kick by Baldy took play right to Matata's line but offside play nullified the effort. The teams concentrated for some time on finding the line, neither side willing to open up the play. From one of the many throws-in Te Teko took the ball down, for Hall to pick up and score nca(r;the corner. Kaipara missed the kick. Te Teko continued to press but lv'ick was against them, although several infringements also contributed to their failure to score. Lees relieved the pressure with n £ood kick to half but at this stage further time was spent in line kicking. There was no alteration in the score at half-time. The Second Half Shortly after the commencement of the second half Te Teko was awarded a penalty but the kick missed. Matata's first points cam:.when a nice passing rush was finalised by R. Lees scoring. The kick failed. Ragged play resulted for some time. Matata was penalised and Ellis piloted the leather between the posts to make the score, Te Teko 6, Matata 3. Play brightened up and good movement was witnessed when, by good anticipation, Ellis scored after a nice run. The try was not converted. Matata retaliated and after a good back movement, R. Lees touched down for an unconverted try. Play swung rapidly to the other end for Tama to score under the posts. Kaipara converted. Te Teko 14, Mat-, ata 6. Other Results Senior: Edgecumbe 16, Awakeri 4 Junior: Otakiri 13, Te Teko 3. Edgecumbe 3, Western Drain 3. Gardiner, Phillips, S. Ellis, C. Francis, R. M. and T. Lees, R. Howell, W. Kaipara, L. Reneta, B. Penny, A.- McCrnclcen, Conn, C. Jones, W. Thompson, K. Woods, L. Hall and J. Sutton. Any player unable to make the trip must notify the selectors or secretary not later than Saturday Ist June when the ; final selection will be made.
