UNION MEETS MOTION FOR CENTRALISATION OF MEETINGS The Whakatane Rugb.y Sub-Union met at Taneatua on Wednesday night, with the President, Mr W. Henderson, in the chair, and delegates were present from tjie Referees' Association and the Whakatane Star, Waimana, Ruatoki, Awawhenua, and Paroa Clubs. Among the early business was t-he decision to hold a representative match on the King's Birthday, Monday, June 3rd, when Whakatane will meet Opotiki for the Parata Cup. This game will be played at Whakatane. The president reported that all school footballs had been distributed The Ruatoki delegate assured the Union that the club's team was now ready and would fulfil all engagements. The number of teams under tlvc control of the Union was increased, when senior and junior teams were nominated by Awawhenua. Mr Bremner was elected a vicepresident. Centralisation of Meetings. A surprise motion was that moved by the Rev. Rrtngi, Ruatoki delegate, when he moved that all Union meetings be centralised, the permanent venue to be Taneatua. He said there was the difficulty of travelling to be considered and pointed out that Waimana and Ruatoki had to travel greater distances than the Whakatane clubs. The motion was supported by Waimana and Awawhenua delegates. * Messrs Ormond and White, moved an amendment that no change be made. ' The president observed that thj motion came as an unpleasant surprise to him. While he sympathised with the;clubs which had the extra travelling to do, nevertheless concessions had been made by the members from Whakatane and he did not think the change would be in j the best interests of the game. He I would prefer to see the matter decided at a fully attended meeting of delegates and at his .suggestion the Rev. Rangi withdrew his motion in favour of a proposal that the matter should be considered at t;h£ next meeting of delegates. Assistance for Sick and Wounded Fund. Mr Henderson stated that a substantial sum of money was to' be raised in the Whakatane Borough and County for the Sick and Wound ed Fund and the Rugby Union, as well as other sports organisations, had been asked to assist. The position would be clarified at a meeting to be held in Whakatane next Monday. Further advice was awaited. If called on, he said, the management committee, clubs and players must be in one hundred per cent and make a really worth while effort. Draw for Saturday. The draw for to-morrow is as follows, junior games commencing at 1.30 and senior matches at 2.45 p.m. Seniors Whakatane Star v Waiimana at Waimana, F. Darvill. Paroa v Ahawhanua at Ruatoki, F. Wederell. Ruatoki v Poroporo at Whakatane B. Norman. Juniors Taneatua v Waimana A at Taneatua, A. Thomas. Ahawhanua v Waimana B at Ruatoki, F. Wederell. Poroporo v Whakatane Star at ; Whakatane, C. P. Lucas. REPRESENTATIVE MATCH Notification that a representative Parata Cup match would he played between Rotorua and Te Puke at Te Puke on June 15, was given to the meeting of the Rotorua Rugby SubUnion by the secretary of the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union, Mr W. S>. Henderson. The Bay of Plenty Union also advised that it had decided to allow the referee to throw the ball into the scrum in a match. On the inch tion of Mr Clarke, it was decided ; that instructions to this effect I should be given to the Referees' Association.
PRIMARY SCHOOLS TOURNA-f MENT UNION SEEKS GRANT At the Whakatane Sub-Union's meeting on Wednesday night advice Was received from Mr A. Bosxvell, secretary of the Primary Schools Football Association, that the annual schools representative tournament would be held in the first Aveek of the August holidays. The teamjs to take part in the tournament are: Cambridge, Matamata, Putaruru, Tauranga, Rotorua, Opotiki, Te Puke, Whakatanc. On receipt of this advice the Whakatane Union made immediate application to the Bay of Plenty Union for a grant, the president, MiHenderson, stating that everything possible would be done to assist the tournament committee. RUGBY TEAMS FOR SATURDAY The team to represent Whakatane Star seniors will be picked from the following players: Robson, Morpeth, Lyndon, Sharman, Whitehead, Chard, Oswald, Cleland, Francis, Rayner, Howat, Kernot, Butler, Clark, Milner, Jackson, Denneliy, Henry. As the match will take place at Waimana. all players are asked to meet at the Rock at 1.30. Juniors to represent Whakatane Star are requested to be on the Domain at 1.15 p.m. and will be (se!< ected from the following: Edwards, Brittain, L. Crapp, Thompson, Sullivan, Coutts, Sheather, Chambers. Fitchett, Melville, Green, Laloli, Brown. Boon, Wikon, Thorburn. The Edgecumbe senior team fto play Awakcri at Awakeri Avill be picked from the following: C. Francis, K. Woods, K. Philips, Thompson, A. McCracken, A'. Bell, G. Savage, L. Gardner, J. Hamilton, B. Penni, J. Tomani, T. Gardner, D. Hiki, G. Matchitt, J. Clothier, S. Pearse, C. Ironmonger. All members are specially requested to attend.
