POSITION EASED

SCHOOL ACCOMMODATION MEASURES ALREADY IN HAND) At the meeting of the Wha-< Itatane District High School Committee on Wednesday night it was stated that the Auckland Education Board had authorised an extension to one of the shelter sheds to provide accomrao- 1 dation for that class using the Show building, and that the work was proceeding. It was expected that the extension would be available within a fortnight and the Show building would not then be required as a classroom. In a letter to the School Committee, and dated May Bth, the Arclii- 1 tect to the Auckland Education 2&£jcd said : ■"As you arc aware, the Board has gone as far as it can, having now completed the working drawings and specifications, and is now awaiting authority from Wellington to -call for tenders, but in the meantime it is recognised that the tarn.-* porary arrangements are not very satisfactory, particularly the shed in the Show grounds, and if your Committee is satisfied that, if a skylight ■was placed in the roof, and some building paper or sisalkraft tacked ;to the rafters, this would meet fcb!e position sufficiently to justify the using of the hall for the winter term, I should be glad if you would get a local estimate for the work and let me have it as soon as possible. An alternative is the provision of extension to one of the shelter sheds and if it is thought that this extension would provide sufficient accommodation for the class now using the Show building, a local price could be obtained and submitted to the Board." Alternative Accepted. The question was considered by "the Committee, which did not c,on r sider that the suggested alterations to the Show building would justify its use in Winter, The secretary advised the Board of this and st^t- 1 >ed that the Committee strongly recommended that the alternative work be carried out. A local price was obtained and •submitted to the Board, which authorised the work.
