GARDENING CIRCLE

W AIM AN A-NU KU HOU W.I. BRANCH The monthly meeting of the Wai-mana-Nukuhou Women's Institute gardening circle was held at Mrs W. Stevenson's home Waimana, last Wednesday afternoon. There was a good attendance of members, who were presided over by Mrs John Addison . Mrs Mitchell gave a most interesting demonstration on the layering of Chrysanthemums. An interesting talk on the wearing of flowers, was given by Mrs Addison. A competition arranged by Mrs Stevenson, was won by Mrs Mitchell. The day's competitions were as follows;— Best Flower: Mrs Mitchell 1, Mrs Hughes 2, Mrs Eagle 3. Best Vegetable: Mrs G. Stansbury (Lettuce) 1. Mrs Hughes (Green Peas) 2, Mrs King (Marrow) 3. Winter Decorations: Mrs Mitchell 1 and 3 S Mrs W. Stevenson 2. After tea had been served by the hostesses Miss M. Hughes and Mrs King, all walked round the garden, which Avas very neat and well kept, the Cotoneaster shrubs being much admired with their bright berries. The President thanked the hostesses, Mrs Stevenson and the judge, Mrs Black, which closed the meeting.
