CITIZENS' BAND

ANNUAL GRANT REQUESTED! COUNCIL'S ATTITUDE The secretary of the Whakatane Citizens' Band advised the Borough Council that the Band's balancesheet would be presented in the near future and requested the annual grant. The Mayor was of the opinion that the Council should hold the grant until the balance-sheet was presented for inspection but Cr Canning took exception. "I don't think it should be hold up for that," he said. He added that the Bandmaster had been compelled to pay for music out of his own pocket. It was then stated that the rule) in reference to a perusal of the bal-ance-sheet prior to making a grant had been laid down some years ago and it would be just as well to adhere to it. It w 7 as added that the best encouragement for the Band would be to attend the concerts. The matter was left to the Finance Committee.
