MAORI PATRIOTISM

INTEREST-FRIiE GOVERNMENT LOAN £1000 FROM TE TEKO NATIVE An instance of Maori patriotism lias been furnished by Mr Charlie Hunia of Te Teko who has responded to the Government's appeal for interest-free loans for the prosecution of the war, by forwarding the sum of £1000. This gesture is the more pleasing in that it has come spontaneously from a native who has proved himself a successful storekeeper and farmer over a period of approximately 130 years. Mr Hunia's example according to one prominent member of the Maori race in Whakatane is likely to be emulated by many other Maoris in the Bay of Plenty.
