Decorations. It was decided by the Borough Council at its meeting on Monday night to make available all Hags on the occasion of the Winter Snow* to be held on June 12, 13, 14 and 15. Generous Offer. The Northern Steamship Company generously offered to convey the playing equipment for the Centennial Park freight free fiom Auckland. On the motion of His Worship the Mayor the Borough Council decided to write expressing thanks for the offer. Petrol Pilferers. Once again the menace of the petrol pilferer is being felt in Tauranga. and saveral motorists have reported that their cars have received the unwelcome attention of these sneak-thieves. Where possible, motorists are warned to use the safety lock on the petrol tank, or if this is not possible take the precaution of having as little benzine in the tank as possible overnight. So far there have been no reports of this practise in Whakatane. Edgecumbe School. The Borough Foreman, Mr W. Henderson, reported to the monthly meeting of the Whakatane Borough Council that the Edgecumbe School Committee had approached him with | a view to the tar-sealing of an area at the school. The Committee had just received a Government grant for the work. Cr Sullivan said it should be pointed out that the present time was most unsuitable for the work and Mr Henderson replied that the Committee was prepared to take the risk. It was decided to advise the committee of the weather •< risk. .
Thanks Expressed. At the Borough Council's meeting on Monday evening His Worship the Mayor read an acknowledgment from the late Mr Savage's relatives for the Borough's expressions of sympathy in their bereavement. Lodge Bowls. On Monday night the Centenary Lodge, 1.0.0. F., entertained the Taneatua Lodge 1.0.0. F., when the latter challenged for the Wilde Cup, the trophy for indoor bowls premiership. An interesting congest resulted in a good win for the local Lodge. Recommendation. One of the recommendations of the Finance Committee of the Borough Council Avas that quotations be obtained for 4' and G' concrete pipes for the purpose of piping portion of the Wairere Stream at Wairere Street. It was explained at the Council's meeting that quotations only are being sought but the idea was to cover in portion of the ground and gully near the Bank of New Zealand to provide additional parking space. "Nothing to Show." The Borough Council received a letter from the Winter Show Association reminding it that space was ! taken at the last Show and plenty would be available at the forthcoming event. The same price, 7/6 per foot frontage, would obtain. His Worship the Mayor: "Last year we took space but I don't know whether we can this year. The Electrical Engineer tells me that we have got nothing to show." The matter was left in the hands of the Finance Committee. Lose fat without discomfort—build health the Bonkora way.
