SHEEP DOG TRIALS
SUCCESS OF TWO COURSES GOOD PUBLIC ATTENDANCE! The annual dog trials held at Opotiki by the Bay of Plenty Sheep Dog Trial Club, again attracted considerable interest, and the record established last year was again broken, entries surpassing all expectations in view of the war conditions. It is apparent that the club chose the right time to change over to two courses so that entries could be handled more expeditiously to complete the trials in a reasonable time. The running of events concurrently enabled the trials to be comfortably completed in three days. It is considered that with only one course in operation tt would have taken nearly a week *':o run off the record number of entries. With the shortening of the trials, it is considered that there will be even better support next year. Visiting competitors Avere very enthusiastic ever the new arrangements and congratulated the club on their enterprise. Competitors came from Tirau, Gisborne, Otoko, Tikitiki, Waihau Bay, Mangatu and other parts!. The attendance of the public was also very pleasing, the various events being watched with considerable interest by residents. The organisation of the trials was very sound, this helping in no small measure to make the trials such a success. Special thanks are due to the stewards and ladies' committee who rendered such good service. As usual tiie trials were held at "Bifnside", Waioeka, and Messrs Reid B-os to be thanked for their continued support of sheen 'leg trials in the dis } r<ol\ hv provid- ; 'ig onn'-ses f ov the use of dieep used at the trials.
