SHOOTING SEASON

ducks plentiful LIMIT BAGS OBTAINED The 1940 shooting season opened on Saturday morning in good duclc weather, but the rain affected pheasant shooting until yesterday afternoon, Avhen conditions cleared. The northerly storm experienced on Saturday had the effect of driving inland the ducks from the coast areas and birds were plentiful on the Rangitaiki, Avhere a number of limit bags were obtained. It is stated that in both numbers and condition the ducks are equal to those of other years and excellent sport is assured for the remainder of the season. Pheasants held to cover until the weather cleared yesterday and good bags were the exception rather than the j-ule. However it is apparent that these birds are as plentiful as in previous years and the prospects for sportsmen arc bright.
