Dear Sir,

Letters to the Editor must be clearly written on one side of the paper only. Where a nom-de-plume is used the name of the writer must be enclosed for reference purposes only. THE MURIWAI CAVE Sir, —I noticed on a recent trip to the Heads that the well known Muriwai Cave, facing the roadwaj r is now almost closed up with earth and rubbish Avhich has collected at thej entrance. I understand that the cave is considered sacred by the local Maoris, and that at one time was the reputed home of a famous princess.. Gould not something be done to restore the cave to its original dimensions. From a conversation with a local Maori of the Matatua tribe I gathered that the cave runs well into the hill and is quite substantial . Could not the Maoris themselves take a more active interest in. a subject appears to have important significance? ' >v' Yours etc., r PAKEHA. . " CLOSED TOHEROA SEASON Sir, —Do I understand that the present is a closed season for the' taking of toheroas from Ohope Beach? If this is so surely there should be some instruction notify-* ing the general public of the fact. ( I recently noticed a number of people helping thcmsslves to these succulent shellfish, and so decided to join them. Imagine my surprise ort being told by one of them that what we were doing was actually illegal. I noticed that this knowledge did not seem to deter them in .'any way from making a regular harvest.Yours etc., NEW RESIDENT.
