THE CALEDONIAN SOCIETY
The offer of the Whakatane Caledonian Society to donate portion of the proceeds from each of the winter Inglesides towards the Red Cross Funds brings this organisation to the fore again, and endorses its existence as a distinct asset to the town. Apart from filling a very valuable position as a social institution, the Society stands for the perpetuation and fostering of the colourful Highland traditions, dances and music. It plays an important part in the civic life of the town by production of a pipe band which would not disgrace a .town five times the size of Whakatane. A feature of the activities of the band is its willingness to co-operate with, and assist in every public function or worthy cause brought to its notice. Both the Society and its band are worthy of recognition and it is to be hoped that they will remain permanent institutions of the town ,filling as the years go by the important functions which they are now carrying out in such a worthy manner.
