GAMING ACT PURPOSES RAFFLES FOB PATRIOTIC PURPOSES An announcement has been made by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E, Parry, that an Order in Council had been prepared for approval by Cabinet extending t.lie provisions of the Gaming Act to permit of the conduct of raffles for real or personal property. The extension is being made for the duration of the Avar and covers raffles designed to assist patriotic purposes. ! At present the Gaining Act limits the conduct of raffles to art prizes, and the extension now proposed will have the effect of considerably increasing the scope under which these competitions are held. The Minister's announcement was made in reply to a deputation from the Canterbury Patriotic Council, which pointed out that a furnished house had been offered as a prize for patriotic funds in Christchurch.
