SUCCESSFUL DANCE SATURDAY NIGHT'S ATTENDANCE The Whakatane Branch of the Red Cross Society held the second of » series of dances on Saturday night, when a large attendance, drawn from the town and surrounding districts, proved, the popularity ot these functions which have an ?n----ercascd appeal as the proceeds aSre for the benefit of the sick and wounded. Old-time and modern dance music was played by an orchestra comprising Miss Tut Hainbly,, Mr Ken Jar-* rett and Mr Wally Lysaght, and by* the Wliakatane Caledonian Society's Pipe Band. Extras were played by Mrs K. Armstrong and delightful vocal solos were rendered by Miss Marjone Thatcher. Novelty dances were won by Mr Dunning and Mrs Walker, and Mr Doust and Miss Tipping. During the evening a donation of £t was received from the Whakatane Star Football Club and a fur* ther donation of 5s from the orch-r estra. Competitions held resulted: Gift Set, Mr I>.
