HOSPITAL BOARD

MEETING YESTERDAY ESTIMATES ADOPTED [ The Bay of Plenty Hospital Board met yesterday when Mr J. W, Sumner fjresided over Messrs R. W. Schofield, L. Buddie, F. J. Burt, C, A. Suckling, A. F. McGougan and Mrs W. McCracken. The secretary, Mr A. Bridgcr, and the Medical Sup erintendefit Dr T. Tewsley Dawson were also present. Leave of absence was granted to Mr F. J. Savage. The initial stages of the meeting were occupied in a discussion on matters affecting the hospital grounds. In dealing; briefly with the financial side, the Chairman said that the £I*9oo collected on back debts was very satisfactory, more so when compared with other hospitals. Over £1,600 had been spent in the surgery and dispensary but there were large stocks on hand. It had been estimated £1,200 would have to be paid to other Boards but actually the figure Avas £1864, an increase of 50 per cent. : Mr Sumner said that Messrs Prideaux and Bridger were to be congratulated, especially on the collection of debts. The accounts showed a cash balance of £465 9s 4cl. For the year there had been 1249 admissions to the hospital and the discharges numbered 1284. The daily average of occupied beds: for the year was 50.021 Adopting the Medical Superintendent's report, the Chairman, addressing Dr Dawson,, said: "On liehalf of the Board I wish to congratulate you, the Matron, and the staff on your efforts ami' co-opera-tion during the past year."' The estimates for the year were adopted on the recommendation of the Finance Committee.. If was stated that they were framed on a 55 bed occupation and a possible increase of 10 per cent in expenditure i in all departments. The levy would remain the same, namely, .42d on capital value.
