CHAIRMAN'S REPORT
WHAKATANE FIRE BOARJD MEETING YESTERDAY The Whakatane Fire Board held its annual general meeting and ordinary meeting yesterday. Mr R. W. Schofield was in the chair until Mr S. S. Shapley Avas elected Chairman for the ensuing year. In his report, Mr Schofield said that the property and plant of Hie Board was being maintained in good order and condition. A new alarm system had been installed recently, complete except for an overhead control wire to enable both sirens to be operated from the telephone exchange. The very reasonable cost of the installation of this further safeguard against fire loss is a pleasing feature respecting the provision of this asset. In concluding his report, Mr Schofield said: "The Board Avishes to express its appreciation of the loyal and efficient service rendered by all members of the Brigade during the year. To those members of the Brigade who have enlisted for service with the Dominion's Military Forces the Board extends its commendation and Avishes them an early and safe return to their normal occupations." Personnel. The personnel of the Board is as follows: Mr S. S. Shapley, Chairman, appointed by the Whakatane Borough Council; Mr F. B. Cutler, also appointed by the Borough Council; Messrs Ms Gumming and R, A. Wilson, appointed by the Fire Insurance Companies, and Mr R. W. Schofield, appointed by the Government.
