SERVICE IN FINLAND
OLD WHAKATANIAN RELATIVE IN TE TEKO Advice has been received that at the beginning of March two members of the New Zealand Anti-Tank Battery in eamp at Al'dershot were released from duties in order that the3 r might join a detachment of 500 officers who had been similarly released from the British Army to serve in Finland. One was Second-Lieutenant Malone, of Stratford, and the other was Gunner M. E. Knight, of Levin, a doctor of philosophy, who has lived in Finland. Gunner Knight is a brother of Mr Ken Knight, who is farming near Te Teko. He is also an ex-pupil of the Whakatane schools After leaving Whakatane he continued his studies at Wanganui Collegiate School and in Christchurch, where he graduated M.A. Some six years ago Gunner Knight left to further his studies in England and during that time he visited France, Switzerland, Sweden, Norway and Finland. He is the fourth member of the family to serve his country. Three brothers,. Captain G . B. Knight, Privates W. D. and H. A. Knight were all kilted in action during the last war.
