PUBLIC LIBRARY

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING OFFICERS ELECTED Dr Tewsley Dawson presided at the annual general meeting of the Whakatane Public Library on Wednesday evening. There was only a small attendance. The minutes and accounts were adopted and the Librarian and President presented their reports. An interesting fact mentioned in the reading of the accounts was that 105 books had been purchased during the year, at an average cost of approximately Bs. Discussion centred round the misapprehension of the general public concerning the rate at which books are obtainable from the Library. It v'as stated that the majority are under the impression that a fee is charged for each book taken out, in addition to the subscription. It was decided to issue a circular to Whakatane householders drawing attention to the comprehensive range of books available and the small subscription payable. Officers elected were: —President: Dr Tewsley Dawson; Hon. Secretary: Mr G. W. Good; Hon. Treasurer: Mr B. Hunter; Committee: Mesdames Grayling, Barry and Flet cher Cole.
