OUT OF THE BLUE
ELECTRICAL DISTURBANCES A clear sky favoured Whakatane and district on Wednesday but,, com mencing at 0.15 p.m., extremely heavy rain fell for some time and at one stage it approached the volume of a tropical deluge. The electrical disturbances, apparent earlier in the day when an earthquake alarmed townspeople,, were particularly noticeable by those attempting to select a radio programme.
