EDGECUMBE BRANCH ANNUAL MEETING HELD The annual meeting of the Edgecumbe Women's Institute was held in the Hall on Tues-» day, March 19th. Mrs Le Lievre presided over an attendance of thirtytwo members. The meeting opened with the sing ing of the Ode to Friendship and the Aspirations were read by Mrs Withy. Voluntary Organiser for the district. The annual report was read by the secretary,, and adopted on the motion of the President. Mrs Le Lievre, in addressing the meeting, thanked all members for their co-operation and help in In-» stitute work and trusted that the new president and committee would be accorded the same measure of loyal support. The balance sheet was read by Mrs Goodwin, who moved its adoption. Correspondence was read including an appeal from Dominion headquarters for parcels for soldiers on active service. It was that Edgecumbe W.I. send two parcels, one of which was generously donated by Mrs Pepperell, and the other made up by contributions from several members. It was alsa unanimously resolved that Edgecumbe W.I. send parcels to local men serving overseas. Delegate to Conference. Regarding the. Bi-annual Conference at Wellington, it was resolved to send a delegate. Two names were proposed, and an election will be held later to decide which will be delegate. The election of officers then took place and resulted as follows: — President-: Mrs Learning. Secretary: Mrs Old. Treasurer: Mrs Hodson. Committee: Mrs Fowell, Mrs Wilson, Mrs L. Wilson, Mrs Hanson Mrs Pool, Mrs Burke, Mrs Hall, Mrs Pepperell and Miss Pepperell. Points prizes were awarded to the following:— Monthly Competitions: Mrs Pepperell 1, Mrs Learning 2. Best Flower Competition: Mrs Pep pcrell 1, Mrs L. Wilson 2. Mrs Withy then addressed the meeting; she complimented the Institute on a good year's work and urged members to continue with drama circles and gardening circles, also to subscribe to Home and Country, the official organ of the W.I. movement. The speaker was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Mrs Goldsmith then presented Mrs Le Lievre and Mrs Snelling retiring President and Secretary, with beautiful bouquets, and a collection of choice carnation plants and ar silver W.I. teaspoon to each. Sha said that the W.I. wished to express its thanks to two retiring officers in such a way that would be always remembered —a garden of friendship was a lovely reminder of happy meetings enjoyed by all. Thanks Returned. Mrs Le Lievre, who was greeted by loud applause as she rose to return thanks, said that she had enjoyed her two years as President! immensely and had learned mucht about Institute work that would help her to be a good member, and assured the newly elected President and Committee of her willingness to help them ir. all possible ways. Mrs Snelling also expressed warm appreciation of the gifts and the kind thoughts of the members. A mystery parcel was won by Mrs G. Wilson and a wall competition by Miss Moira Mexted. Afternoon tea was served by the committee.
