OPOTIKI HOSPITAL

MEDICAL SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT NUMBER OF PATIENTS INCREASES The following report was presented by Dr. Glifl'oril James,, medical superintendent, at tire monthly meeting of the Opotiki Hospital Board:— For month ended 29th February: Patients remaining in hospital 31st January, 29; admitted during tlhe month, 41; discharged, 38; remaining in hospital 29/4/40, 32; average occupied beds for February, 28.fi. The month has seen a record num her of patients in hospital at the one time. The number of operations done has also been large. The atmosphere of the hospital is one of happiness and contentment. Visiting Hours: It has become evident that with the increased number of patients recovering from operations or serious sickness, the two-hour period on the afternoons of Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday is too long. The patients are tired and upset and not equal to having visitors for so long a time. I Avould suggest that visiting hours on these days be 2.30-3.30 instead of 2-4 p.m.
