PROPOSAL APPROVED
COLLECTOR OF NATIVE RATES FINANCE COMMITTEE'S RECOMMENDATION A recommendation that the proposal he approved was forwarded by the Finance Committee to the Wliakatane County Council at the meeting last week, the matter being Native RaCe Collection. The County Chairman had reported that a proposal was under consideration whereunder the Wh»katane County Council would combine with the Rangitaiki Land Drainage Department in the appointment of a Native Rate Collector. The proposal had the approval of the Native Land Court and as a commencement, subject to the Rangitaiki Drainage Department's co-operation, a six months was proposed. The appointee would receive £(5 per Week and £2 per week car allowance, such costs to be borne equally between the council and the Drainage Department. In consideration of the native rate being greater than the Drainage native rate the Council would also undertake all clerical Avork necessary and would also endeavour to leviSe the valuation rolls. The native rate collector, in collecting 1939-40 and subsequent rates, would make a report on every native rate assessment.
