CAMPERS AT OHOPE

PETITION TO COUNCIL STRONG PROTEST ENTERED Ninety-two ratepayers, residents and visitors to Ohope Beach signed a petition of protest which was presented to the Whakatanc County Council at its meeting last week. The signatories protested most vigorously against the manner in which the Health Inspector had dealt Avith visitors to the Beach on Boxing Day and the following day, and asked if they were to be denied the right to benefit in health from the splendid beach and calling upon the Council to protect their interests. The petition was forwarded by Mr T. P. Dowling, who, in a covering letter, said that Ohope generally recognised the keen interest taken in its welfare by the Council, the Clerk and the Engineer and adding that lie would be pleased to wait on the Council in support of the protest. The Council decided that as the matter had already been handled and satisfactorily dealt with that petitioner be advised accordingly. In the same connection, Dr. L. S. Davies, Medical Officer of Health, wrote stating that he was glad to receive the Council's letter and to learn that the unhappy incident had had such a satisfactory ending. He trusted that in future co-opera-tion between the Council and the Department would continue to their mutual advantage.
