MONTHLY MEETING HELD NEW COUNCILLORS WELCOMED The monthly meeting of the Whakatane Borougli Council was held on Monday night, Ilis Worship the Mayor presiding over Councillois S. S. Shapley, A. J. Canning, J. G. Mulholland, C. G. Caisley, A. Hall, G. Otley, W. Sullivan, C. S. Arnir strong and C. W. Goode. Councillors Mulholland and Goode recently elected to fill tlic vacancies caused by the resignation of Major Prideaux and Second-Lieutenant Brabant, "were welcomed by the Mayor and sworn in. The monthly reports of the Borough Foreman, Electrical Engineer and Inspector were received withi out discussion and most of the inwards correspondence passed without comment,. Brief accounts of their attendance at the Municipal Conference, held recently in Wellington, were given by Councillors Canning and Armstrong, and a comprehensive coverage of the major issues raised at the Conference was given by the Town Clerk, Mr D. V. Saunders.
