ABSENCE OF INCIDENTS
NO DISORDERLY BEHAVIOUR Credit is due to the Police officers engaged for their patient supervision of the largest crowd ever seen in Whakatane, when eight thousand people thronged the streets last Saturday to witness the Centennial celebrations. Sergeant M. Farrell, in charge of the Whakatane Polise district, was assisted by Constables 1-. M v Pullei and R. A. A. Prater, of Whakatane, Constable O. Rice, of Taneatua, and Constable Ridois, of le Whaili and that these five ollicers wore able to control such a large assembly Avitliout any incidents says much for their ability. Excellent tontrol of the IraSnc was exercised by Inspector J. H. Delves, of the Transport Department, who was assisted by Inspector Carling (County), Inspectoi Morell (Opotiki) and several temofficers. With hundreds of cars and trucks making for the town, and little narking space available, Inspector Delves had an unenviable task and he is to be commended on the way in which he handled it. There was not a single accident, reported throughout the day, despite the volume of the traffic handled, and in this fact is a tribute to the care and skill of the officers.
