LOCAL ELECTIONS

CONTESTS NEXT YEAR Local bodies elected at the municipal elections in May, 1938. are now coming' to the end of their second year in office. Prior to 1938 the elections of various types of local bodies were held on widely differing dates, but under the Local Elections and Polls Amend ment Act of 1935 the terms of office of town boards and road boards were adjusted to enable the elections to take place on the same date as that- provided for borough and county councils as well as for the election of representatives of the various combined districts on the harbour and hospital boards. These elections were held on May 11, 1938, and, as the same amendment prescribed triennial elections for all these bodies, there will again be 1 a large number of issues to be , considered in May of next yean ;
