WOMEN'S INSTITUTE
OTAKIRI BRANCH ANNUAL MEETING HELD The annual meeting of the Otakiri branch of the Women's Institute was held last Wednesday at the residence of Mrs Tickner. Mrs G. Whiteside presided over a good attendance. After the confirmation of the minutes of the previous annual meeting Mrs Withy of Matata, voluntary organiser for the Bay of Plenty, explained about the parcels for the soldiers. It Avas decided that each member subscribe towards the fund, Mrs G. Murray donating lavo fruit cakes for the parcels. The competition for the month was the best collection of vegetables grown in home gardens. This Avas won by Mrs Whiteside Avith 12 Ararieties first, Mrs Hampton second, and Mrs Winters third. The best flower was Avon by Mrs Winters 1, Mrs Tickner 2, and Mrs Rutherford 3. The competitions Avere judged by Mrs Withy. The new president elected Avas Mrs Tickner and the committee, Mesdames Winters,, Iledgley, Whiteside, Cristal (secretary), Lord and Miss J. Murray. The hostesses were Mrs M. Woodberry and Mrs Martin.
WAIMANA-NUKUHOU BRANCH
(Own Correspondent) The annual meeting of the Wai-mana-iNukuhou branch of the Women's Institute was held in the Waimana Hall last Wednesday after noon. There was a good attendance of members; two members are in hospital, and are wished a speedy recovery to health." The retiring President, Mrs Marra, presided. • The meeting opened with tlie Ode to s, Friendship, after which Mrs Black, acting secretary, read the mriuites of the previous annual meeting. A: letter was received from the Dominion Secretary asking for cooperation in making up parcels for soldiers. It was deckled to make up the parcels asked for and £1 13s 4d was collected to help to purchase goods for the parcels. A sub-com-mittee consisting of five members, was elected to pack and despatch the goods. The report and balance sheet was read and adopted and the Gardening and Dramatic Circles presented their reports. Officers elected for the ensuing year were: —President: Mrs N. Clark; committee: Mesdames J. Addison, Stevenson, E. A. Bell, C. Wylde, M. King, Mitchell, Hewitt, Gallagher, McConnell, Jnr., and Miss E. Wardlaw. During the meeting Mrs V. Wilson, V.0., gave a most interesting address on Institute affairs, and this was much appreciated. Three new members were welcomed •• The day's competitions were as follows: —Best flower: Mrs Black 1, Mrs Stevenson 2, Mrs H. Wardlaw 3. Jar of Preserved Peaches: Mrs Woolfield 1, Mrs HeAvitt 2 r Miss WoolHeld 3. Meringues: Mrs Hewitt 1, Miss Woolfield 2, Mrs Stevenson 3. The hostesses served a dainty tea and a hearty vote of thanks was passed to all members for their cooperation during the past year.
