Mr and Mrs D. V. Saunders have returned from Wellington. Mr and Mrs C. S. Armstrong are back from a trip to Wellington. Mr and Mrs Swaney have returned from a tour of the North Island. Mr M. J. Fogarty, of the Health Department, Christchurch, and formerly of Whakatane, is visiting the town. Among those at Tauranga on Saturday were Mrs G. Fanner (Whakatane). Mrs A. G. Neil (Whakatane), Mrs Keith Bell (Waimana). Jack Haeusler, an old Whakatane High School boy, who enlisted at the outbreak of the war, has been passed as a pilot: in the Air Force, and is to report at Levin on June 4. Mr A. G. Hultquist, M.P., who is an officer-cadet in the Advanced Training Corps at Army School, Trent ham, undergoing training for a specialised unit does not expect to leave New Zealand until the 3rd Echelon goes overseas. The course he is going through at present is not scheduled to finish until March 30th. Mr Hultquist's brother, R.N., who enlisted in Whakatane and is now a Sergeant in the N.Z. Engineers at Papakura, commences his final leave this week and he will be going away with the 2nd Echelon when they leave.
