POLICE PROSECUTIONS

CHARGES INVOLVING LIQUOR UNLICENSED RADIO SETS An order was made by consent when the Police sought to have Kopu Hauwai prohibited in the Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. Costs against Hauwai amounted to 15s. Constable <>. Rice gave evidence when Wi McCaulay was charged with being found drunk on the the main road at Te Teko on December 16th. McCaulay was convicted and ordered to pay £1 5s costs. Robert Malcolm Bailey was charged with enteriug licensed premises whilst prohibited and procuring liquor whilst prohibited. Constable R. A. A. Prater said that he had found Bailey in an intoxicated condition at 5.50 p.m. on February 19th. Defendant had admitted having liquor. He was fined £1 with 10s costs on each count. Similar charges were preferred against PJrewhenua Kuaha. Constable F. M. Fuller stated that Kuaha had been arrested at 2.55 p.m on February 17th for drunkenness and had subsequently been lined £1. He had nine previous convictions for breaches of his order. Kuaha was lined £1 on each charge with costs 15s in one case and £1 Is ii* the oUher. In the cases where the Police prosecuted Kahu Tihi and Sid Davjs for operating unlicensed radio sets, evidence was given by Albert Edward Churehev, postmaster at Taneatua and Radio Inspector for the district. 1 In each case a fine of 10s was inflicted with costs amounting to 255. A similar fine, with 21s costs was imposed on Wi Sydney (Mr R. F. Smith).
