NEW SEASON OPENS WIDE INTEREST SHOWN The lounge in the Whakatanc Hotel was the scene of a very happy gathering when the Lyceum Club held the opening of the 1940 season on Monday last. This took the form of a flag bridge evening for members and their guests. The lounge was beautifully decorated with bowls of hydrangeas and zinnias, making a charming setting for the 1 gowns of the ladies. The President, Mrs D. Pcarse, wearing an old gold taffeta frock Avith the neAv bustle effect, received the guests. Before supper Avas served, the prizes for the evening Avere presented to the AVinners, Misses S. Tippett, N. Alexander and E. Armstrong. The following announcements were made: The Gardening Circle Avill have the opening meeting on Thursday afternoon, 7th March, at 2 p.m. A meeting for those interested in the Musical Circle Avill be held on Friday, the Bth at 8 p.m. The Bridge Circle evenihgs Avill be every first Tuesday in the month, and the Mah Jong every second Monday in the month, commencing next Monday.
