SATISFACTORY FIRST DAY
The New Zealand Loan and Mer- . cantile Agency Co. Ltd. reports a heavy yarding of lambs on February Bth at the first day of their annual j Sheep Fair at Whakatane,. The yard- j ing comprised 3800 lambs Avhicli averaged the very satisfactory fig- f ure of 14s (id. i Exceptionally well grown ewe lambs on account of Mr Clem Black, Opotiki, made 21s Id. A pen of 56 on account of Mr J. Thompson 20s 6d. Both pens sold to Messrs Sisam 1 and Si'sam. A pen of 68 on account of Mr G. L. Sanson made 18s Id with smaller sorts from 15s 6d to 17s 9d. Forward wether lambs on account Mr J. Thompson made. 17s 6d with i others from 15s 6d to 17s Id. Heavy i fat M.S. lambs to 22s 4d. Gull M.S. i lambs from 9s to 14s. . 1 On the second day devoted to big ] sheep the feature of the yarding was the number of exceptionally good well grown woolled 2-tooth eAvcs. i Two-tooth ewes on account Mr Robt. Thompson made 30s. A very nice line of 380 on account ( of Messrs Thompson and Ernest made 28s 3d. A pen of 370 from R. Thompson 28s. Four-:tooth ewes from the same vendor made 27s 6d. Five-year local ewes to 18s, 6-year local ewes from lis 6d to 16s, aged ewes from 8s to lis according to con dition. A total clearance was'effected. PRICES AT OPOTIKI KEEN COMPETITION Messrs Dajgety and Go. Ltd. report having held their Annual Sheep Fair at Opotiki on the 7th of February when the offering comprised 7602 sheep, which included: 4081 ewes, 2916 wethers, 560 lambs, \3 rams. The entry on the average, was quite up to the standard and quality of previous years. There was a large and representative attendance of buyers, from as far North as Waikato. Competition was exceedingly keen on all classes of wethers which sold at an advance on late rates. The demand for young, and good class of 4 and 5 year old ewes was keen at fully rates of other'centres. Lambs sold under steady competition but at rates slightly lower than outside districts. There was also a good entry of Romney rams which sold under keen competition at rates exceeding vendor's expecUitib'ns. Realisations: Fat wethers 21s to 225: light 19s to 20s; fat ewes 13s to 14s 6d; light 12s; 2-tooth ewes 28s to 29s 4d; medium sorts 24s to 26s Id; small 20s to 225; 2-tooth wethers 17s 6d to 18s 6d; medium 16s to 17s: culls 14s 6d; 4-tooth wethers 20s to 21s 6d; G-tooth Avethers 20s to 21s 7d; M.A. ewes 22s to 245; 4 t,o 5year ewes 21s to 24s lOd; 5-year ewe 1 * 20s to 22s 6d; medium sorts 18s to 20s; F.M. ewes 16s to 19s; medium sort's 13s to 15s Gd; culls 10s to 12s; shorn ewe lambs 14s to 15s; shorn M.S. lambs 12s to 13s 6d; shorn Avether lambs 12s 6d to 13s 6d; medium sorts 10s to lis; culled lambs 7;s 6d to 8s Gd; 'one shear Romney rams 4%gns to G^gns.
