INSTITUTE MEETING

The Waimana-'Nukuhou Women's Institute held their February meeting in the Waimana Hall last Wednesday afternoon. There Avas a good attendance of members and all thor oughly enjoyed the meeting after the holiday season.

The president, Mrs Marra, was unable to be present and Mrs Jerram most capably presided.

Mrs Wylde read #he minutes of the previous meeting and the correspondence was dealt with.

Nominations for the 1940-41 committee were received and Mrs N. Clarke, Nukuhou North, Avas elected president for the ucav year. It Avas resolved to send a delegate to the July confercnce in Wellington. Mrs N. Clarke gave an interesting travel talk on a trip from Ncav Zea j land to England via Panama, and also on Holland, the speaker telling of the fields of Tulips Avhich Avere a marvellous sight. Several members 'who have visited the Exhibition gave short talks on what impressed them most there. Mrs J. L. Burnett, gave a most interesting demonstration on bandaging a sprained ankle. The roll call, "Tavo Things a Husband Should Not Do" Avas Avell responded to and caused much laugh ter. The day's competitions were: Best flo Aver, 20 entries: Miss Mavis-Ward-law 1, Mrs Stevenson 2, Mrs F. Bell 3. Plum sauce, 10 entries; Mrs H. WardlaAV 1, Mrs HcAvitt 2, Mrs R. Bl'ack 3. Slice of Xmas cake, 9 entries: Mrs N. Clarke 1, Mrs Hewitt Mrs I. Savage 3. Pikelets, 8 entries: Mrs T. WardlaAV 1, Mrs HeAVitt % Mrs I. Savage 3. The hostesses, Mrs Eagle, Mrs Flint, Mrs Fleming, Mrs Clarke and Mrts DavJes served a dainty tea. Mrs Jerram thanked the judges, Mrs Packe and Miss Bartrum, the hostesses and all 1 members for their kind help during the afternoon, and the president read the "King's Message" to the Empire, which was broadcast in December and the singing of the National Anthem clos ed the meeting.
