CITRUS GROWERS
BAY OF PLENTY ASSOCIATION REPORT FROM ADVISORY COUNCIL The monthly meeting of the Bay ol' Plenty Citrus Growers Association was held on Wednesday evening at Taur'anga. There was a fair attendance of growers. Mr Paynter, District Supervisor of the Department of Agriculture, was present and addressed the meeting. : He stressed the need of a strong organisation and urged mem-bea-s to make every effort to secure new members. He mentioned that the Internal Marketing Department had installed a new machine at the depot l'or banding fruit and lie was going to ask Mr' Honeyfield to try and arrange a' field day, when the machine could be demonstrated to growers. The meeting received a report from Mr Hunt, the local member of the Citrus Advisory Council, on the negotiations between growers' repre sentatives and the Minister of MarIce ting, Hon. W. Nash, for an increased price for lemons. As has been already reported,, the Minister agreed to pay an average price of 7s per loose bushel with the prospect of a further Gd if the Marketing Department could effect any economies in handling. It iwas resolved that, a fund be opened to help compensate those growers who had suffered serious losses from citrus canker and that any contributions would be received i by the Secretary.
