Miss H. Bartrtim of Gisborne is staj'ing at Niikuhou North with her sister, Mrs E. Cranswick. Mrs Packe of Gisborne, is staying with her daughter, Mrs De Latour, of Nukuliou North. Mr Norman Cooper has been visiting Whakatane. Mr Cooper is well known as an amateur long-disbance runner. Mr H. Martin, of the Christcliurch Press, accompanied by Mrs Martin and Miss Taylor, has recently concluded a visit to Whakatane. Mr and Mrs A. GraqfT and Miss Gwen G-raeff of King Street, are at present on a holiday tour which will include the Centennial Exhibition at Wellington. Mr and Mrs T. J. Cummings and fauiily returned on Thursday night from an extensive tour .of the Northr Island, which included visits to Taupo, Napier, Dannevirke. and* the Centennial Exhibition. . -, ,

Friends of Mr J. G. Cutler expupil and dux of the Whakatane School will be glad to learn t'liat In the rccent University examinations lie successfully passed his L.L.B. degree. Mr Culler is now in training at Narrow Neck military camp. ENGAGEMENT The engagement is announced of Mervyn Joseph, second son of Mr and Mrs T. J. Cummings of Whakatane, and Kathleen Thelma McShane, youngest daughter of Mrs R. Allan and the late Mr P. McShane of Waiuku.)
