NEXT MONTH'S SHOW

Edgecumbe Sale as Usual. Though Monday next is Anniversary Day the Farmers' Auctioneering Coy wish to notify clients that the weekly sale at Edgecumbe will be held as usual.

Following out the adage adopted since the outbreak of war, the. Whakatane and -Rangitaiki A. and P. Society has decided to 'Carry On', with the result that the Annual Show will be conducted as usual on the 20th of February. The importance of agricultural district shows, and their advertising value to the centres in which they are held needs no undue emphasis here. At the same time there is always the need to remind farmers and town residents of their duty towards such fixtures. Founded entirely on goodwill, and completely dependent upon co-operation for their success, agricultural shows are fixtures which serve as a barometer of the soundness of a community or otherwise. All farmers who 'take a pride in their district, should make an effort to exhibit. All town residents should make a point of attending and supporting. The past record of the Show is one of which all may be proud, but the potentialities are even greater if only the correct spirit can be infused. Only by complete co-ordination and understanding can Whakatane's Show be built up to what so many of its members envisage to-day—the greatest exhibition of stock in the Bay of Plenty.

Obituary. The funeral took place on Tuesday of the late Miss Waenga, East Coast. Deceased was a daughter of the well-known Waenga family, seven sons of which recently volunteered for active service with the Maori Battalion.
