WHAKATANE'S CENTENNIAL
The refusal of Princess Te Puea to loan one of the specially constructed canoes for the purpose of re-enacting the historic landing of the Matatua canoe on the occasion of the Whakatane celebrations in March, will be no doubt some thing of a disappointment to the local sub-committee in charge of that section of the programme. However it can. be safely assumed that the members will do all in their power to explore other possibilities before agreeing to forego the important item entirely.
