PETROL RESTRICTIONS
MOTORISTS APPARENTLY SATISFIED NO ABNORMAL DEMAND Demand for benzine in Whakatane has varied very little from the usual despite the Hon, D. («. Sullivan's announcement of the re-imposition of restrictions. It appears as though motorists are accepting their fate in this regard, and having expected the announcement, are little perturbed. Enquiries at several garages and service stations yesterday revealed that the allocations of S gallons per month for cars up to 14 horse-power and 12 gallons per month for those cars having a higher rating, with t*he addition of 20 gallons tor business cars, were considered very liberal by the majority of motorists. Asked whether there had been a demand for -10 gallon drums, one garage manager stated that there had been several enquiries but the practise was not encouraged, and unless there was reason to believe that there was need for an extra supply, such requests were being refused. It is anticipated that there will be a bigger demand for pet'rol towards the end of the month, particularly on January Hist when it is expected that the majority of motorists will (ill their tanks so that they can start the restricted period with that advantage. "The allocations arc more than were expected, ' said one gaiage pioprietor, "and it should be possible for garages and service stations to continue operations. We arc quite satisfied."
