SHOWERS OF STONE
SURPRISE FOR GARAGE STAFF BLASTING AT HILLCREST Members of the staff of Messrs. Hamill Bros Office and Showroom near the Rock, yesterday suffered a rude shock when a shower of heavy stones rattled on the iron roof, puncturing the metal in a dozen places and, smashing a large skylight. It appears that members of the Borough Council staff who are in the process of widening the Hillcrest Road, had just at that moment blasted a large portion of the face away, the explosion blowing the fragments much further than anticipated. The piece which broke the skylight weighed several pounds and landed just behind a typewrighter, fortunately at that moment not being operated. Another stone broke a Avindow in Hicks Billiard Rooms, while yet another tore off the insulation of a nearby poAverline. The Hillcrest Road is now closed to traffic, and all to an.l from Ohope are diverted via the Maraetotara Gorge Road.
