OBITUARY
MR ARTHUR WIGGINS > We regret! to record the death of Mr Arthur Wiggins, a well known resident of Whakatane, who died at Rotorua last Saturday. Mij Wiggins had been in indifferent health for v some years, but a three-month trip around the Pacific Islands, from which he returned last September, had appeared to improve him. Born in Woolston fifty-four years ago, Mr Wiggins started work in the freezing works there and was a foreman when he came north in 1923. He was engaged for a season at the freezing works in Whakatane and when they closed down he bocame a hide and skin buyer. Later he contracted for maize shelling and then took up land adjoining the Paper Mills. He sold twelve acres of his farm; to the Paper Mills Company and "i some two years ago he disposed of the rest of his property ihere. The late Mr Wiggins was one of the first to appreciate the prospects of Ohope Beach and purchased several sections on which he erected houses. The Captain's Cabin, the first building of importance to be buii'lt at the beach was put up by him. Mr Wiggins is survived by Mrs Wiggins, and a family of two sons -4 and a daughter, all of whom are married and living in Whakatane* The greatest sympathy will be felt for them in their bereavement. MR J. F. NICHOLLS A Avell known personality hi the Waimana district, particularly among the Maoris, Mr John Frederick Nicholls, died on Sunday at the age of sixty-four. Mr Nicholls lived among the Maoris ever since his childhood and was so respected and esteemed by them that they made him a blood- A brother. There is mourning now at the Otara Pa.
