Seasonal Greetings., , Among the number of Christmas cards received by the Whakatane Borough Council were Borough greet ings from Whangarei, Gisborne, Napier and Wairoa. Only the Tails. A welKknown Ohope resident on Sunday ruefully surveyed a couple of torn strips of material clinging to the clothes line by means of a brace of pegs. The tufts of whiteness represented all that remained of a shirt hung out the night before. Trees Across Roadway. Quick work by the borough workmen resulted in the pine tree which had blown across the roadway on Sunday being removed within a few hours. The tree which was fairly large was crosscut into sections and disposed of. Caretakers at Park. A recommendation from the Finance Committee that Mr and Mrs W. F. G. Creekc and Mr J. Creeke be appointed honorary caretakers of the Centenary Park at the Whakatane Heads was approved by the Bor ough Council on Monday night. Heavy Traffic Licenses. Many Campers Leaving. There is a steady trek of campersfrom Ohope back to their homes. The storm last week, though it must have inconvenienced many cannot be held completely responsible. It is quite the normal custom when half way through the month of Jan uary to see the number of campers on the beach dccline. Bathing Sheds. Tt was suggested at the monthly meeting of the Borough Council, held on Monday night, that the bath ing sheds at the Centennial Park be washed out occasionally and that some effort be made to obtain a supply of water lor that purpose. It might prove convenient to sink a well near the sheds. Saving Benzine. "I laid up my car and cycled into the meeting to-night in order to save benzine," stated a member of t.lie Matamata Farmers' Union during Friday's meeting in instancing his effort to fall in with the union's programme. "Was your battery flat?" asked another member amid laughter by way of facetious comment. Weekly Half-Holiday. The special meeting required by law to fix the statutory half-day in the Roiorua County was held last week in the course of the ordinary meeting of the Rotorua County Coun cil.
