CONCERTED EFFORT NEEDED
A month before the Christmas holidays a meeting of Ohope residents decided to make a determined effort to overcome the jealousies and petty differences which a year or two ago resulted in the section-holders dividing into two separate camps—the Ratepayers' Association and the Progress League. As a result of the division both organisations have been wrecked on the hard rocks of apathy and indifference. The Ratepayers Association met the first time within a year at the public meeting while the Progress League,, has its books gummed up, awaiting the touch of the Fairy Prince of Advancement to awaken it to activity. In the latter instance, something like £40 is held for Ohope improvements. The County Council has a further £50 which it is prepared to release following the correct representations. One of Ohope's foremost settlers has promised to subsidise £50 if raised for a children's playground) while there have been numerous offers on the part of householders without a stake in the beach to come forward and assist. With so many of 'the sectionholders now camping on the beach the present time, appears a very favourable one for the calling of a meeting which would bring all parties together for the purpose of effecting the common desire of everyone—the progress, improvement and control of the finest beach resort in the North Island.
