YOUNG WHAKATANF MAN AS AIRCRAFT ENGINEER SERVICES RETAINED DURING WAR Advice has been received that Mr Tim Smetlley, one of the twin sons of Mr and Mrs Smedley, formerly of YVhakatane, is at present engaged as a testing engineer in the Standard Motor Company's 'shadow' aircraft factory. A photograph sent to a friend shows Mr Smedley demonstrating aeroplane engine cylinders to a very distinguished group, which includes Sir Ivingslev Wood, Air Minister in the British War Cabinet, Captain J. P. Black, apd directors of the firm. It is understood that Mr Smedley, who was an employee of Bryant and Oii 1 icar while in Whakalanc, and who left for England about three years ago, was ready to return to this country when war was declared. Mr Sinedley's services were required in highly specialised and valuable work, and he was asked to slay with the company.
