LOST AT THE HEADS
TWO YOUNG GIRLS MISSING POLICE SEARCH ALL NIGHT OPERATIONS THIS MORNING . Fears for the safety of iwo young girls of Whakatane who left on Sunday to view the breakers at the Heads, and who have not as yet returned to their homes, is felt by the local police who spent the whole of Sunday night searching the rocky headland and the adjoining beaches. The missing girls are June Bennett, aged fifteen and a half, of Souter's Avenue, and Julie Scott aged twelve, of Goulstone . Road. The girls left in the afternoon to go to the Heads, and had no other * persons with them. They were seen by others in the vicinity for the point above the Centennial Park about 6 p.m. and as far as the police have been able to ascertain this is the only forthcoming. When botlSjjjwfed tc*. 'return home by 8.30 the police were notified and a search was immediately organised. All efforts during the night were however without result. A further party of a dozen men started out this morning and the whole of the foreshore between the Heads and Otawairere Bay will be combed. The whole town will, watch the progress of the search with anxiety and hope. FOUND AT OHOPE V ' ' As we go to press, a last minute message from Ohope, states that the two girls have been located, having lost their way in making" over the headland, and travelling southwards ultimately reached the open beach. Both appear none the worse for their night in the open. v
