LUCKY ESCAPE

MOTORIST COLLIDES WITH BRIDGE CAR BADLY DAMAGED A fortunate escape from serious Injury was experienced by Mr A. J. Laing, of Tuakau, and a passenger on Saturday afternoon when their car and trailer collided with the stone parapet of the overhead railway bridge at Otamarakau. Mr Laing was travelling in the direction of Whakatane when the accident occurred. The front of the car was badly damaged, and the rear of the car also damaged by the impact of the trailer. No injuries were received by either the driver >or the passenger. The concrete parapets of this bridge bears the scars of numerous collisions and scrapes. There is no indication given to the motorist that there is a narrow bridge at poin t, the only road sign indi•caPhg that there is a corner ahead, and many motorists are given a false sense of security.
